Mobile 28 GHz Phased Array Antenna Modules

This demo showcases real-world experiments using mobile 28 GHz Phased Array Antenna Modules (PAAMs), integrated with USRP-2974 software-defined radios. We demonstrate end-to-end wireless communication, beam steering, and direction-of-arrival estimation between mobile nodes deployed in the COSMOS testbed and field.

The mobile PAAMs support flexible beam control, polarization, and modulation, all driven via a custom React-based GUI and REST APIs. Our system architecture includes a weatherproof PAAM + SDR unit with Wi-Fi hotspot access and local GNURadio support.

Key demonstrations include: (1) Establishing an OFDM link between two mobile PAAMs; (2) Beam sweeping at the receiver to identify the strongest angle of arrival; (3) Visualization of beamforming and EVM metrics using the GUI.

This infrastructure provides a powerful, mobile alternative to static mmWave base stations and enables realistic testing of V2X, UE, and 6G concepts with fine-grained mmWave control.
